Cleve David Ferris

February 25, 1949 — October 8, 2022

Cleve “Dave” David Ferris, devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather unexpectedly passed away while surrounded by his wife, 5 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on October 8, 2022 at the young age of 73. Dave was born February 25, 1949, the oldest of 5, in Medford Oregon to Cleve Nelson Ferris and Thea Janet (Frietag) Ferris. Dave attended Wilson Elementary, Hedrick Middle School and Medford High School in Oregon. He continued his education after graduating with his class of 1967 by obtaining his Electronics Degree from Oregon State University as well as completing numerous accredited automotive repair classes; an interest and talent that came naturally to him. It is often said he was born with a wrench in his hand.

Dave married twice. His first marriage to Ava June Jackson in 1967 brought two beautiful children, Sherie and Cleve “Dave” Jr. into his world. His second marriage to Diane Lee Dyer in 1975 brought him three additional beautiful children, William “Bill”, Jason Sr. and Robert “Bob”. Their family was complete. Dave was a great racecar driver and lived a fast life. He loved racing, and spent hours upon hours at the track with his family and friends. He won numerous events and was widely respected at the track. After a half a dozen years or so they left Medford and headed South, eventually landing in Sacramento, California where they all planted deep roots. Dave created a long career in the field he loved, with more than 50 years as a prized auto mechanic. In the later years of his career, he successfully fulfilled his wildest dream by opening, and owning his own shop in downtown Sacramento, where he specialized in classic car restoration. He was an avid Motorsports, San Francisco 49ers and Sacramento Kings fan, and a Star Trek “Trekkie”. He enjoyed, reading, politics, water skiing, engineering, music, computers, tearing anything apart and putting it back together “better” and barbequing with family and friends.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diane Ferris; his 5 children and their significant halves, Sherie and Fernando Torralba, Cleve “Dave” Ferris Jr. and Nicole Herzog, William “Bill” and Trish Durante, Jason Durante and Christina Theibes, Robert “Bob” and Tracy Ferris; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; his surviving siblings and their significant halves, Daniel “Dan” and Danette “Dani” Ferris, Shelly and Jay Sickler; Extended Family, Sandras children, Tammy, Chris, and Dan, Daniels “Dans” children, Hollis and Harmony, Shelleys children, Madisen and Tasmin; Special Friends; Robert, Jackie, Doug, Brandy and Ricardo Sifuentes, Anthony and Bradford Schwartz, Paula, Lori and Jeffrey.
