William Edward "Ted" Hunting, age 91, of Elk Grove, California, passed away peacefully at his home on November 6, 2024. Born and raised in Sacramento, Ted spent his entire life in the area he loved.
After graduating high school, Ted proudly served his country in the military for two years as a train engine mechanic based in Fort Eustis, Virginia. Upon his honorable discharge, he became part owner of Curtis Roofing, a successful roofing company in Sacramento, where his work ethic and dedication made a lasting impact for over 60 years.
Ted’s greatest joys were his passions: racing, his dogs, maintaining his 2+ acres of lawn and anything with an engine from trains to tractors and airplanes to hot rods.
His love of racing took him across the western United States racing sprint cars, mini-sprints and midgets with Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC), Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA) and the United States Auto Club (USAC). Ted was the proud owner of the cars earning multiple owner championships and awards for best competition car in show at the Sacramento Autorama.
Ted is survived by his three sons, Alan, Bob, and Doug, and his daughter-in-law, Megan, as well as his grandchildren, Buddy and Shannon, and multiple great-grandchildren. His warmth, determination, and zest for life will be remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Ted’s life will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, from noon to 2 PM at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento.
