Wayne Elwood Morehead died on December 22, 2020 at his home in Sacramento surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old.
He was born in Otero County, Colorado, to Jordan A Morehead and Violet Bay Morehead. Raised in southeastern Colorado, he was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He received a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso.
He served twenty years in the United States Army including two combat tours in Vietnam. His second career was as a professional engineer with the Division of Structure Design, California Department of Transportation. His areas of greatest interest were lift bridges and tunnel lighting design.
His twenty years of retirement were spent enjoying time at the family cabin at Lake Tahoe, golfing with the SIRS group, birding trips with Pat, gardening, and adventures with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia, and their three sons and spouses: James (Jeannie Chiu), Daniel (Devon), and John (Helen) and grandchildren Matthew (Lauren), Madison, Mackenzie, Sarah, Emmett, Steven, and Eric Morehead, sisters Sharon Brown and Linda Muller, and brother Gail Morehead. His brother Ronald Morehead predeceased him.
He will be laid to rest in a private family gathering on January 5th at Calvary Cemetery.
