In loving memory of Timothy John Donoghue (1974-2023)
On July 28, 1974, Tim was born in Sacramento, California to parents Lynne Berry and Peter Donoghue. Tim was the oldest of siblings Anthony Patrick and Ryan Edward Donoghue. Tim spent his youth growing up in Davis, riding bikes, excelling at school, running around with neighborhood friends, and playing sports.
Tim cherished childhood memories of going to the Lair of the Bear every year with his family, skiing with his dad, rushing off to Cal football games after soccer on Saturdays, playing made-up neighborhood sports such as “newspaper tag” or “Shorts baseball,” traveling to visit family friends, designing cars and other creations on his mother’s art paper, or hosting Olympic-style games with stuffed animals for his brother.
Tim graduated from Davis High School in 1993, having played four years of football, rugby, and competed in track and field events. He excelled at football, both as a powerful running back and as a reliable place kicker. Remarkably organized and driven, Tim also excelled academically, achieving mostly straight-A’s as a student at Pioneer Elementary School, Holmes Junior High, and Davis High.
Following high school, Tim attended the University of California, Berkeley and joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. Following his years at Berkeley, Tim took to traveling on his own, at one point enrolling in courses at the University of Arkansas, before moving back to Sacramento and eventually settling back in his hometown of Davis.
Tim is survived by his mother, Lynne; his step-mother, Christy; his brothers, Tony (Heather) and Ryan; and nephews, Maxwell and Sebastian. Tim would certainly have recognized his aunts and uncles, Christine, Larry, and Elizabeth; his cousins, Curtis Metz (Heidi), Laurence B. Donoghue, AnneMarie Donoghue, John Donoghue (Madeline), Matthew Donoghue, Andrew Donoghue (Linda), Katie McCullough, Doreen Donoghue, Steven Benetier; Tom Berry, and Aaron Berry; the Hein/Davis families; the Proffits; the Gimmels; the Raulinaitis family; all the Almond Lane/Willowbank families, as well as other extended family and friends both past and present. Rest in peace Tim, our beloved son, brother, uncle, and loving friend.
