Sophia R. Corpus

Sophia was born on March 5, 1921 in Los Animas, Colorado to loving parents Martin and Fernanda Ronquillo.  Sophia was one of eleven children. Her family later moved to Billings, Montana where Sophia completed cosmetology school. In 1943, she married Emilio Corpus and together they had a daughter, Priscilla. Emilio’s employment moved them to many different states ending them up in San Clemente, California, where Sophia fell in love with the pacific ocean beaches.  In 1956, Sophia made her way to Sacramento to be closer to family and remained in the area.  She eventually resumed her career in cosmetology and with hard work and determination she proudly opened her own beauty shop named “Sophia’s.” This passion became a life-long career. Sophia was a devoted Catholic and her life was happily filled with family, friends and her special pets.  She enjoyed music and was quite the dancer. She also had a flair for fashion, designing, and sewing many of her own outfits as well as others.  Sophia was stylish and always looked her best! She was an artistic woman with many hobbies like painting, ceramics, gardening, and even deep sea fishing.  Sophia traveled the world and her faith grew even stronger after her visit to Fatima and the Holy land, where she followed the footsteps of Jesus.  It forever changed her life. It was at this time she became a dedicated Lector at St. Mary’s church.  Her passion for God fulfilled her and remained most important in her life. In her final years she always said “I did everything I ever dreamed of doing, I traveled the world, I’m happy and I have no regrets.” Her parting gesture to family was pointing to her picture of Jesus, then pointing up to heaven. She left this world in a peaceful sleep at 98 years old.  Rest in peace sweet Mom and Grandmother. We will always love you!
