Sister Mary Virginia Sullivan

Sister Mary Virginia Sullivan returned to the arms of God on July 17, 2021 having served God as a Sister of Mercy for 68 years. Born to Cornelius and Margaret O’Sullivan in 1931, she was one of six siblings, Maureen Mahoney, Frances Doyle, and Agnes Courtney, and two brothers, Meehale and Patie.  Throughout her life she served primarily in the field of health care she served primarily in healthcare, beginning as an EKG/EEG technician at Mercy Medical Center, Redding, and later moving into pastoral care. Sister was no stranger to pain. She suffered from serious back pain but after a successful surgery she continued to serve in pastoral care at Mercy San Juan Hospital, Mercy Folsom, and finally, Mercy Medical Center, Mt. Shasta. A blessing to her sisters in Auburn, she was known for her gentle presence and loving compassion. 

A vigil service will be held at 6:30pm on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy, 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn, CA. 

The funeral liturgy will take place the following morning at 10:30am at the Convent. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in her memory to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn, CA. 95603.
