Sister Anne Mccrohan

Sister Anne McCrohan returned to God on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.  She was the daughter of the late Denis McCrohan and Mary O’Donoghue, of Caherciveen, County Kerry, Ireland.  One of eleven siblings, Timothy, John, Mary, Michael, Nora, Helen, Brid, Eugene, Denis and Joseph. Sr. Anne had a desire to give her life to God.  As she put it, “I just had the desire to do something special with the life God gave me.”  For her that something special took the form of dedicating her life to the service of those who were poor, sick and uneducated as a Sister of Mercy.

Sister Anne spent 25 years as a junior high teacher in Catholic Schools throughout the diocese of Sacramento, as well as two years at Bishop Manogue High School. She transitioned to parish ministry in 1979 and spent ten years ministering at St. John Parish Chico, St. Paul Parish, Sacramento and Queen of Peace at Mather Air Force Base.

In 1990, Sister Anne trained as a hospital chaplain and spent twenty years bringing comfort and care to the sick, their families and staff at Mercy San Juan Hospital.

Sr. Anne is survived by her Community, the Sisters of Mercy; her brothers, Brother Denis and Joseph in Ireland, and many nieces and nephews.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy, 535 Sacramento St., Auburn, CA.  on Friday, September 9th at 10:30 am. The vigil will be on Thursday, September 8, at 6:00 pm.  All attendees are welcome and must be vaccinated against COVID.

Memorials may be made out to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn, CA, 95603.
