Bob Schnetz was born Aug.29, 1938 in Sacramento, California and passed away on Nov.24, 2021. His parents Oscar and Dorothy Schnetz, and his sister, Dina Ennis, are deceased. Beloved husband to Teddy for 60 years, proud father of Theresa Schnetz, Kristi O'Connor and Eric (Shelly) Schnetz, loving brother of Jerry and Rick (Sharon). He treasured his grandchildren: Jessica O'Brien (Kyle), Mikala Shuping, Samantha Schnetz, Casey O'Connor, Bobby Schnetz, Ryan O'Connor, Keegan Shuping, Courtney O'Connor, Sammy Campbell and Ryan Campbell. and great granddaughter, Jocelyn O'Brien.
Bob attended Sacred Heart School and Christian Brothers High School. He graduated from St. Mary's College in Moraga in 1960. He loved playing rugby at SMC.. As student body president, he developed his leadership skills which he used in the service of others. In his retirement years, he rejoined the SMC rugby community supporting the team in multiple ways even recruiting young men from the Sacramento area. He helped create the St. Mary's College Rugby Board. He was honored to receive the 2011 Patrick B. Vincent Lifetime Achievement Award. Bob married Teddy in 1962 and began his 25 year career with Allstate Insurance mostly in Human Resources. This provided him an opportunity to enjoy travel to Mexico, Japan, England, Germany and the Netherlands, his family living in Mexico City for 2 1/2 years and a summer in England. learning to speak Spanish fluently prepared him well for teaching English to emigrants at the Sacramento Food Bank years later. His experience of Cursillo in Chicago deepening his faith in God gave him a blueprint for his life. Taking Cursillo to Christian men in Northern Ireland when there was much despair and suffering transformed his life. He worked the Cursillo teams for 13 years. Bob loved all kinds of music, loved to dance, was a part of the ukelele orchestra at Heritage Park. He enjoyed riding his bike 50 miles weekly with other bike club members. Bob was thrilled to help Eric with opening of first Chicago Fire Restaurant on Sutter St , worked as manager and lastly became "Wine Pops" who managed the wine list. If there was someone needing help, a group that needed leadership, a reunion that needed to be planned, a friend's eulogy to be given, a support group to be formed, a poem to be written for a loved one, Bob was there. His big heart, his positive and fun personality will be deeply missed.
Memorial mass will be at St. Ignatius Church, 3235 Arden Way, in Sacramento on Monday, Jan,24, 2022 at 10:00a.m.
