Sacramento, California - Richard Aloysius Kettmann, Sr. passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 at his Sacramento home, surrounded by family. Aged 91, Richard was born June 1, 1929 in San Jose, California to loving parents Louis Kettmann and Mae McGuiness Kettmann. The youngest of four boys, Richard was raised on the family ranch in the Evergreen section of San Jose and attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and Bellarmine High School. He often spoke fondly of his childhood, the ranch, his parents, his brothers and his extended family.
Upon graduation from high school, Richard enlisted and served in the United States Navy and was primarily stationed in San Diego. After honorably completing his naval service, Richard returned to San Jose. He embarked upon a decades-long career with Farmer Brothers Coffee Company, starting out as a salesperson in San Jose and ascending through numerous positions to retire as a Division Manager after more than forty years of service. Richard was a true salesman and an effective manager who loved his work and made numerous lifelong friendships with customers and co-workers alike.
While serving in the Navy in San Diego, Richard met Rhoda Humphreys. Shortly after returning to San Jose from the Navy, Richard married Rhoda at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Reno, Nevada. They were happily married for sixty-seven years until Rhoda's passing in May 2019. Together, they had six children, Kathleen, Richard Jr. (Katie), Patricia, Cynthia, Michael, and Melissa Cook (Michael), and six grandchildren, Christopher Kennedy, Michael Cook Jr. (Sara), Ashley Shaub (Michael), and Matthew, Daniel and Samuel Cook.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jack, Louis and Bud, his daughter Patricia, his son Michael, and his beloved wife Rhoda.
Richard is survived by his children and grandchildren, his cousin Jerry (Nancy), whom he considered a brother, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members, and a number of lifelong friends.
Richard was comfortable in any setting. He enjoyed life and loved people. He was always happy to see those he knew. Time spent with Richard was always fun, entertaining and enjoyable. He was a dedicated father and grandfather and, with Rhoda, hosted numerous lively family gatherings. He will be missed and long remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services are planned for 11 am on May 12, 2021 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Sacramento, Ca., with a reception to follow. Interment will be private.
