Michael John Clifford

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael John Clifford on August 28th, 2024. Born in San Francisco, CA on June 16, 1955, his family soon moved to Sacramento, CA where he graduated from Mira Loma HS in 1973 and later attended California State University, Sacramento. Mike married Linda Jean (Nettle) in 1981. He worked at the Franchise Tax Board in different and valued positions for over 30 years, retiring in 2014. Often called on to train at FTB, Mike was well-known for his acumen and skill in solving problems.

Michael spent his retirement - when not with family or going to grandkids’ basketball, soccer and, recently, football games - pursuing his lengthy and significant interest in the Civil War, visiting historical locations, museums, and battlefield sites numerous times every year. He loved watching football, Nascar and baseball – subscribing to a service that allowed him to watch every baseball game played. This allowed him to watch the Pirates regularly, his favorite team after the Minnesota Vikings and their defensive line in the 70’s – the Purple People Eaters.

He is survived by his wife Linda, his children; Brian (Irene) and Matthew (Kathryn), his grandchildren; Noah, Jonah, Caleb, Ruth and Eli, his siblings; Nancy and Brian (Jeryl) and his brother-in-law Stan Rabang, his best friend, Dan Siroskey, as well as a larger extended family and many friends, especially from his time at FTB. Mike is now reunited with his parents, Patrick Joseph and Jacqueline Ann as well as his sister, Diane Marie.

A service is scheduled at W. F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Ave., Sacramento, on September 19th, 2024, at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow at the Annunciation Hellenic Center, 616 Alhambra Blvd., Sacramento (Parking lot accessed from 30th between F & G Streets).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Battlefield Trust, www.battlefields.org. in Mike’s name.
