Mary Sweigert Mastalski

Mary Sweigert Mastalski passed away at her home in Sacramento on November 18, 2024. A fourth generation Sacramentan, Mary was born on December 29, 1928 to Edna and State Senator Earl Desmond. She married William T. Sweigert in 1948 and together had seven children, they divorced in 1966. Mary married Cass Mastalski in 1972, a widower with five children and together they raised a clan of twelve!

Mary is predeceased by husband Cass; brothers Richard, Louis and Michael Desmond and sisters Denise Franzoia and Clare Lagomarsino. Mary is survived by daughter Patricia Setzer and sons William, Robert, Daniel, David, Paul and James Sweigert, stepdaughter Laurie Moede and stepsons David, Brian, John and Kevin Mastalski, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Countless others also referred to her as "MOM" and "GRANNY".

Mary attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and was in the second graduating class of St. Francis High School, located at 26th and K St. at the time. A long time member of St. Ignatius Parish, Mary was a member of the "Barn Family", pioneers who started the parish in 1954. She was also a charter member of Loyola Guild, a performer in the Jesuit High School "Spring Fling" and a member of the Sacramento Pioneer Association.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Carlton Senior Living and Sutter Hospice for their kindness and loving care of our dear Mother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 3235 Arden Way on Saturday December 7th at 10:00 a.m. with recitation of the rosary at 9:30 a.m.
