Lana Y. Berriesford

Lana Yumiko Berriesford (nee Oshita), entered peacefully into eternal rest on July 2, 2021, at her home in Sacramento, California. Born April 3, 1957, in Stockton, California to Yoichi and May Oshita, she is survived by her husband Michael, son Thomas, daughter in law Alyssa and grandson Malcolm as well as by siblings Diane Hotta, Shirley Sakai and Stan Oshita.  Lana pursued academic and leadership excellence as the junior girls’ representative to the 1974 California Girls State convention from Linden High School where she was valedictorian for the class of 1975.  Lana received an Associate of Arts degree from San Joaquin Delta College and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of the Pacific where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.  She then received a Master of Business Administration from the California State University at Sacramento where she was also a Resident Assistant in Draper Hall.  All these experiences made Lana an agent of positive change wherever she went. Lana enjoyed working for many private companies and state agencies where she was liked and respected by her colleagues.  She ultimately retired from the Department of Transportation in 2021.  Lana was active in her community and her church devoting many hours of service to Sacred Heart School, Land Park Soccer, Land Park Pacific Little League, Jesuit High School, and P.E.O. Sisterhood.

But more than this, Lana knew love.  She loved and was loved by many.  As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be greatly missed.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Lana at 11:00 a.m. on July 16, 2021, at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th Street, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Jesuit High School, Sacramento.
