John Delbert O’Connor passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2022 at the age of 64 in Sacramento, CA after a six year cancer journey. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Delbert and Mary O’Connor, and his sister Ann. John was born and raised in Sacramento and cherished his family’s legacy of hard work and steadfast faith. He met the love of his life Maureen Dennehy at Santa Clara University, they married in 1981 and together they built their own foundation of love, hard work and faith, and raised their family in the Pocket neighborhood of Sacramento. John worked for and later led Luppen & Hawley, Inc. for over 25 years. His time in the mechanical contracting industry left him with many lifelong friends and the lasting respect of peers throughout the state of California. John loved watching his three sons grow up, whether in the classroom, on the field, on the ski slopes, in the pool, on the golf course or just in the backyard. From Sacramento to Lake Tahoe, his happiness came from being with family. Later in life, John was no stranger to the golf course, playing several times a week with both family and friends at Valley Hi. John is survived by his wife, Maureen, sons, Colin (Marissa), Kyle (Ali), and Kevin; and grandchildren, Lorelei, Rowan, and John. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (David), Brian (Wendy), and Matt, his sisters- and brothers-in-law, cousins, and many nieces and nephews who brought great value and enjoyment to his life.
John’s funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Parish, 660 Florin Rd, Sacramento, CA 95831.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his name can be made to the Jesuit High School Scholarship Fund: https://www.jesuithighschool.org/memoriam-giving.
