John Edward Moist

John Edward Moist. July 13, 1949 – March 11, 2023. John Edward Moist (73) died after a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Robert E. Moist and Doris Moist and lived in Springfield, PA all his life until he moved to California in 1967 to attend UC Davis. While still a student at UC Davis, he began working for the State of California and after graduation in 1971, continued to work for the State as a Senior Analyst for 36 years. His wife, Phyllis, entered his life in 1981 and they were married in 1985. They enjoyed many years of rock concerts (Bruce Springsteen, et.al.), world travel, Giants baseball, and spending time on the Mendocino Coast in their cabin in the woods. John’s interest in beer label collecting and beer-making led him in the early 1980’s to be a limited partner in Sacramento’s original bottled lager beer company, River City Beer. He had pet rabbits and was a proud member of the Sacramento House Rabbit Society. His passion for baseball led to his being a co-founding partner in Sacramento’s Dusty Baker Chapter of the Society of American Baseball Research, (SABR). His creativity expressed itself through his love of photography, which he began while in college as a volunteer photographer for the final years of the Sacramento Solons. He is survived by his wife Phyllis McMaster Moist, stepdaughters Jodi Kessler (Scott), Stephanie Hampton (Matthew), sister Jackie Siminitus (Vince), four step-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. Our family is extremely grateful for all the care that the staff at Revere Court Memory Care Assisted Living facility provided for John. No services are planned at this time.
