Fabian Quinto Generao

Fabian Q. Generao of Folsom, California, passed away at age 83 in Sacramento, California on Wednesday May 26, 2021. He was born July 17, 1937 to Fabian L. Generao, Sr. and Maxima Quinto Generao in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Republic of the Philippines. Fabian, also known as Alex, graduated from the University of the Philippines High School in 1954. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biological and Physical Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force “Silent Service” as a Hospital Corpsman.

On September 3, 1960, he wed Patricia Ann Foti. They raised their four children in Silver Spring, Maryland. Fabian earned recognition as the Technical Director of Nuclear Medicine at George Washington University Hospital, earned degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from the University of Maryland, and held positions at various Federal Government agencies over the course of his career. Fabian retired as Chief Chemist from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in December 1999, receiving countless awards for his 25 years of exemplary service, including the Group Honor Award for Excellence and the President’s Council Award for Outstanding Y2K Service.

Fabian spent his retirement surrounded by family, teaching his grandchildren to fly fish, and tending to his fruit trees. He found joy in sharing the abundance of his fruit and homemade jams with family and friends. He encouraged and supported his children and grandchildren in their endeavors, equally proud of every achievement, big or small. His greatest talent was his ability to instill confidence and teach his children and grandchildren to believe in themselves so they could reach their true potential. He dedicated his personal time to the University of the Philippines Alumni Association, the Lion’s Club, and attending reunions with his lifelong friends from U.P. High Batch ’54.

Fabian is survived by his wife, Patricia, his three daughters and their husbands—Jennifer (Rick Klingler), Suzanne (Jaime Dickerson), and Stefanie (Sean Mitchell)—ten grandchildren: Jacqueline (Matthew Parry), Madeleine (Peter Dinich), Olivia, Chloe, Eliza, Kevin, Declan, Gigi, Ronin, and Josette; and two great-grandchildren, Owen Alejo and Theodore; sister and brother in law, Vivien and Alphonso Idos, and countless others who hold him in their hearts, including cousins, nieces and nephews, former colleagues, and friends. He was predeceased by his son Kevin Michael Generao (1985). Fabian will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, unexpectedly slick dance moves, and addictive Adobo and Arroz Caldo.
