Eleanor "Gerrie" Fenton
October 6, 1924 - November 20, 2021
Sacramento, California - Gerrie, devoted wife and mother passed peacefully on November 20, 2021. Gerrie was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 6, 1924. She moved with her mother to SF at age 4 where she attended the Notre Dame de Victoires Ecole. As a sophomore in high school she attended Nazareth Academy in Kentucky graduating in 1942. She received her BA in English from Lone Mountain College, SF, in 1946. She married Frank L. Fenton in 1949 and spent 51 years with him traveling, worshiping and raising their two boys. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in November 2000, her sister-in-law Florence C. Fenton, and her mother Mary Louise Cassilly. She is survived by her two sons Richard J. Fenton and Joseph F. Fenton, her daughter-in-law Morgan Gleason-Fenton, and cousins, family, and friends too numerous to count. She taught grade school at St. Mary's Parochial School in Sacramento and was an active member of the St. Philomene community as a liturgical minister and in service to the homebound. Her other activities included the Cenacle Affiliate, CA Pro-Life Council, the International Thomas Merton Society, Red Hat Society, and travels with the Rhodes Scholars. She loved life, her faith and her treasured family and friends.
Services will be held on December 15, 2021 at St. Ignatius Church beginning with prayers at noon followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 1 PM. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will be on December 16th at 11 AM. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to "Sharing The Bounty" (c/o St. Philomene Church, Sacramento) or feeding the hungry where ever you may find them.
