On March 21st, in Carmichael, CA, Edward R. Marszal passed away, surrounded by family. He was 74 years old.
Ed is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Susan, his two children, Annie (husband Jason) & Adam (wife Maggie), his two grandchildren, Lucy Ann (4 months old), Little Eddie (1 month old), and beloved niece, Ann Pasquale. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfonse & Ann Marszal, along with his dear brother, Stan Marszal.
Ed was born in 1946, a true ‘Baby Boomer’, from Cleveland, Ohio. Always the comic, he used to say, “I was born at a very young age.” As the youngest of two boys in this Polish household, Ed learned compassion and generosity from his Mother, Ann, and a strong work ethic from his Father, Alfons.
After attending Brush High School, Marszal became the first person in his family to go to college. He was a proud Ohio University Bobcat and member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduation, he joined the US Army.
Ed met his wife Susan in 1978, while living in San Francisco, CA. Not long after they were married, the dream of owning his own business became a reality. The couple moved to Carmichael, CA and opened their 1st Chevron gas station, in 1981. Ed embodied the American Dream. He came from very little and through hard work, ingenuity, and intelligence, he built his business. In 1983 daughter Ann was born, and four years later son, Adam, joined the family.
Whether you knew Ed well, or only briefly had the pleasure, he made a lasting impression. He lived a full life, a devoted family man, a lifelong entrepreneur, the best friend you could ask for, and he was always ready to make you laugh with a great joke.
Our family found these words scribbled down in Dad’s handwriting: “Do not morn that what you lost, rejoice instead that you had it.”
