Dorothy Uzelac Livaich passed away peacefully at home on Friday April 21, 2023 at the age of 99. Born March 24, 1924 in Sacramento, CA, Dorothy was the first born child of the late Aleksa and Violet Pearl Uzelac both of the former Yugoslavia. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband William A. Livaich, son William C. Livaich, daughter-in-law Rory, sister Mildred Hanson, brother-in-law Richard Hanson, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Uzelac and sister-in-law Virginia Uzelac. She is survived by her brothers Milton Uzelac of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ron Uzelac of Sacramento; sons and daughters-in-law Gary, Marianne, Craig, Klaudija; her grandchildren Emily, Joseph (Rosemary), Michael; three great-grandchildren Ante, Flora and Agostino and many loving nieces, nephews and friends across the world.
Dorothy was a graduate of Sacramento High School’s class of 1941 and Heald Business College. She worked at the California State Capitol as a legislative secretary for 27 years. She worked with Jesse Unruh, Willie Brown, Frank Lanterman Nick Petris and Bob Naylor, just to name a few. She was also in the opening scene for the popular 1960’s television show, Slattery’s People, that was filmed at the State Capitol. Dorothy was a past president of the 20-30ettes and was an accomplished seamstress often making her own clothes based on the fashion of the time as well as several of her own design. She was a patron of the arts and enjoyed going to the theater, the ballet and the opera, including an opera at the world famous La Scala in Milan with her son William. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and experiencing new cultures, getting lost in a good book, cheering for the 49ers, a good meal and a dry Rob Roy.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church (1040 39th Street, Sacramento, CA) with a reception following the mass. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
