Donald M. Murchison

Donald Merritt Murchison, age 84, passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 18, 2021. Don was born on September 10, 1936, in Sacramento to Donald and Dolores Murchison. Don is survived by his wife Sue, son Tim(Lori) Murchison, daughters Allison(Martin) Malecki and Andrea Murchison, grandchildren, Kaitlin and Alex Murchison, Marty(Julie), Eileen and Courtney Malecki and Andrew Sheleby. Don was the oldest of four brothers. He is preceded by his brothers, Grant and Terry, and survived by his youngest brother Brad.

Don and Sue travelled the world together, exploring every continent save Antarctica. They shared this passion with their children and grandchildren with several trips and they’ve become ardent travelers themselves.

Don was an avid flyer from his teenage years, a proud member of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Air Squadron and spent many years flying doctors and nurses to clinics in Mexico. With his flying instructor’s license he taught several family and friends in order to obtain their licenses. He enjoyed flying friends and family around for business and pleasure.

Don was a very accomplished athlete in high school, attended Grant Union High School and named All City Guard on their football team. He then joined Stanford’s football team as a freshman. It was at Stanford that he met the love of his life, Sue. They were married 63 years ago.

Don loved his wife, kids and grandchildren. He was a very kind, patient and loving man.

We would like to express our appreciation to the staff at Oakmont of Carmichael for their care.

Funeral services will take place on Monday June 28th 10am at St. Ignatius Parish Church.

In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to Jesuit High School, 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael, CA 95608 or Wellsprings Women’s Center PO Box 5728 Sacramento, CA 95817-9728.
