It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dimos Douveas, a beloved member of the Sacramento Greek community, who departed this life peacefully on June 1st at the age of 82.
Dimos was born on February 16, 1942, in Nikaia, Piraeus, Greece. At age 26, he emigrated to the United States, joining his brother Yianni in San Francisco. In 1970, while visiting his sister Anna in Sacramento, he attended a dance hosted by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he met Evangelia Kontes. They were married six months later.
Dimos and Evangelia initially settled in San Francisco, where their first daughter, Malamo, was born. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Sacramento, where they welcomed their second daughter, Georgia. Dimos was an exceptionally hard worker, dedicating himself to his career as a painter until his retirement.
Dimos was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren. Dimos's legacy is one of love, dedication, and faith. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evangelia, their daughters Malamo (Demetri) and Georgia (Bassili), and their cherished grandchildren, Sotiris, Evangelia, Eleni, and Evangelia. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
The Trisagion will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Sacramento on Sunday, June 9th at 7:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Annunciation on Monday, June 10th at 10:30am followed by a Makaria. The internment will take place at 2:00pm at the East Lawn Memorial Park in East Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Dimos Douveas.
May his memory be eternal.
