Charles Franklin Buchanan, 84, passed away on July 13, 2023 in Redding, California. He was born on July 7, 1939 in McRae, Georgia to Della and Harlow Buchanan. His father passed away when he was 10 years old. Soon after he quit school and started working to help the family. He joined the Navy and served on the USS James E. Kyes from 1956-1960. He then worked to support his family in various occupations. He owned a gas-service station in southern California, he worked as a diesel mechanic, he also worked as a bus mechanic for Norco schools, Dixon school District and Vacaville Unified School District. He retired from Vacaville Unifed School District as a supervisor in the transportation department.

Chuck was a people person. He loved to talk to anyone he came in contact with. He never met a stranger. He loved the Lord and teaching Sunday School. He was faithful to his church and always there to help wherever he could. He served in Churches in Norco, Redding, North Highlands, Fairfield, Vacaville, Red Bluff, Folsom and Burney. He was an avid gardener and spent a lot of time in his yard making it a beautiful place to be. He loved growing plants. He grew vegetables and shared them with family, friends and neighbors. He was a great cook and always enjoyed making big meals with Pat when family came to visit.  He loved to decorate the yard for Christmas and even won a contest for it in Redding. He married Patricia Lattin on August 25, 1972 and together they raised their blended family of 6 children. He taught them the value of hard work and responsibility.  After 47 years of marriage, Pat went to her home in heaven in 2019 and Chuck missed her every day. He was also preceded in death by his son Donald in 2015. 

Chuck is survived by his children Dwayne Buchanan and his wife Sue, Marian Marglon and husband Ron, Bill Buchanan and husband Robert,  Kimberly Stuyt-Chambers and husband Richard, Timothy Chambers and wife Sharnell, and daughter-in-law Mary Chambers (wife of Donald); beloved grandfather of Hollie Schell, Varian Schell, Zack Schell (Liz), Stephanie Johnson (James), Shelly Richter (Joe), Brandon Chambers (Mary), Brad Chambers (Rachel), Adam Chambers, Samantha Prosser (James), Danielle Chambers, Courtney McDonald (Theodore), Amanda Anders; and 14 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Charlotte and his brother Donny. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Service will be on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 9:30 A.M. at Highlands Missionary Baptist Church 4130 Baptist Ct. North Highlands, CA 95660 

Graveside committal will follow at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in 5810 Midway Rd. Dixon, CA 95620 at 1:15 P.M.
