Anna Marie passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 29, 2023, a month short of her 98th birthday. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to the late Robert Barbeau. Loving mother of Terri Barbeau and Cheri Cook (John). Devoted grandmother or referred to as “B” to Patrick Jr. (Erica), Megan, and Brendan Gormley and great-grandmother to Michael and Grace Gormley. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She now rejoins her parents, Thomas and Nellie Griffin, as well as her sisters, Mary Ellen Ostoja and Kathleen Perich and brother-in-law Joseph Ostoja.
A graduate of Immaculate Conception School and St. Joseph Academy class of 1943. During her time there, she was captain of the basketball team for all four years and was sports editor of the school newspaper. During her early career she worked for The Sacramento County Recorder’s Office and Sacramento Abstract and Title Company. She was very active in All Hallows School, Parish and Mother’s Club.
Her faith in God and love of her family and friends guided her throughout her life. Her home was always open to family and friends where she prepared wonderful meals. Her hobbies included cooking/baking, gardening, sewing and traveling the world with her husband. Santa Cruz, Sea Ranch, Ireland and the mountains of Lake Tahoe held a special place in her heart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of her soul on Thursday, September 7th at 10:30AM, at St. Mary's Church, 1333 58th Street. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The La Salle Club at Christian Brothers High School and Sacramento Food Bank.
