Marilyn Josephine McAleer, a fourth generation native of Sacramento, passed away at home on December 24, 2011 at the age of 64. Marilyn was born on April 22, 1947 at Mercy General Hospital to Harold Aphonsus McAleer and Noreen Ryan McAleer. She was preceded in death by her brother Harold John McAleer. Marilyn attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Saint Francis High School and graduated from the School of Nursing at Sacramento City Community College. She received her BA from Loyola University in Baltimore. Marilyn was a dedicated nurse for over thirty years. She was proud of her profession and brought joy and fun to her many patients in Baltimore and Sacramento. Marilyn is survived by her cherished son, Jeffrey Getek, sisters Elizabeth McAleer Madden, Alice McAleer Cano, brother-in-law Alberto Cano, sister-in-law Joy Patterson, nieces and nephews: Christopher, Elizabeth, Julie, Margaret, Joel, Daniel, Matthew and Amy, their spouses and children and numerous cousins. As an inveterate story-teller, Marilyn entertained us all tremendously. We will miss her dearly. Max and Molly, her dogs, were the focus of her life. Friends are welcome to her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 4th at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 39th and J St, Sacramento. Remembrances may be made to Sacred Heart Parish School Scholarship Foundation or to the Sacramento City Animal Shelter.
