Jae Sik Mun

Of East Sacramento, formerly of Seoul, South Korea, father, grandfather, bus-driver for nearly thirty years, passed away Sunday, November 13, at the age of 79. He was a Korean veteran who loved singing and fishing, renowned for his skills on the river and at the microphone. His singing specialty was old Korean folk songs which he rendered with much feeling and to the delight of his audiences. When not singing, Jae Sik frequented the American River where he found great enjoyment angling for salmon and other fish. According to his granddaughters, he rarely came home empty handed from the river. He moved to America 26 years ago to Sacramento, California, with his wife. A beloved son, father, husband, brother, and grandfather, he enjoyed roaming the flea markets near his home, and taking pictures. In recent years his health began to fail and he lost the strength for fishing and singing, though both activities remained close to his heart to the end. Surviving Mr. Mun are three daughters and one son. His son, Byung Gook and daughter Un Sook still reside in Korea. Daughters Unkyong and Unhee live in the Sacramento area. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Services will be at the W.F. Gormley & Sons Funeral Home, 2015 Capitol Ave., Sacramento CA 95811 on Thursday at 10:30 am.
