James (Jim) Aloysius Gill

James (Jim) Aloysius Gill Born March 3rd 1948 Entered into rest March 5th 2012 Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend Jim was a devoted friend and family man, who always touched the lives of everyone he met. His sweet demeanor and delightful sense of humor endeared Jim to everyone who knew him. Born and raised in Sacramento, Jim was the son of Michael & Della Gill. In his youth Jim was an Altar Boy at Sacred Heart Church, and graduated from Christian Brothers High School. After high school Jim joined the Air Force.  He was stationed in Korea & Boston during the Viet Nam War. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Jim attended Sacramento State University. Jim went on to coach basketball and football at Sacred Heart, Christian Brothers & St. Patricks schools over his career. Jim was an avid gardener and loved to tend to his roses prior to losing his sight in 1995. Jim loved the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, Guinness beer, traveling to Ireland, and his sweets. He also enjoyed practicing Tai Chi with his brother, Joe, and his computer with speech enabled software.  In 2006 Jim met the love of his life, Shirley Carter, and his bachelor days were over.  Jim and Shirley were married on December 29, 2007 and Jim instantly became an irreplaceable part of her family. In 2009 Jim was diagnosed with colon cancer. Jim bravely battled the disease until it finally overtook him on March 5th 2012. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Michael & Della Gill, his sister Rosemary Gill, his brother Jack Gill and niece Laura Gill. Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley Carter; step daughters: Sonda (Duane) Tadlock, Becky (Scott) Hadaway, Nicole (Jim) Raulien, Crystal (Brad) Langston and Bonnie Carter; brothers: Michael Jr. (Mona) Gill and Joseph (Janet) Gill; nieces: Julie (Steve) Jensen, Joanie (Eric) Luhrs, Kelly (Darren) Giverson, Cathy (Dan) Wright and Terri Gill; nephews: Michael (Patty) Gill, Chris (Jennifer) Gill, Tom (Stephanie) Gill, Danny (Janelle) Gill, Stephen (Gretchen) Gill and Eddie (Tisha) Gill; as well as many great nieces and nephews. Visitation and Rosary will be held at W.F. Gormley and Sons on 2015 Capitol Ave. on Sunday, March 11 at 5:00pm Funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church on 1040 39th St. on Monday, March 12th at 10:00am
