Sister Mary Consilia Lynskey died peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Convent, Auburn on December 1, 2011. Born June 9, 1924 in County Galway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Lynskey. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on January 14, 1960 and professed final vows on August 15, 1967. Sister Mary Consilia trained as a midwife at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin, Ireland and after completing her training worked at Bon Secours Hospital and University Hospital in Galway for fifteen years before entering the Sisters of Mercy. After completing her early studies in religious life, she attended Sacramento City College and graduated as an LVN in 1966. She spent the next seven years nursing at Mercy General, Sacramento, Mercy San Juan, Carmichael and Mercy Hospital, Redding. She then transitioned to Pastoral Care and ministered to the sick and dying in each of these hospitals. In 1992 she became Resident Liaison at Mercy McMahon Terrace providing spiritual care to the residents and remained there until her retirement in 2006. Due to failing health she moved to Our Lady of Lourdes Infirmary in Auburn and spent her remaining years in prayer ministry. She is preceded in death by her brother John, sisters Margaret Gibbons and Catherine Costelloe. She is survived by her sister, Delia Lynskey, nieces, nephew, cousins and her religious community. A vigil service will be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 pm and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 7 at 11:00 am. All services will be at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Auburn. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
