James Anthony Burich

James A. Burich Sr. closed the book on a long and fulfilling life. Born in Sacramento May 12, 1925, Jim attended Holy Angels and then Christian Brothers High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and served in England during WWII. After the war Jim earned a B.S. from USF, returned to Sacramento and joined his father in the restaurant business first at the Equipoise Cafe and later at Burichs Grill. In later years Jim worked as a liquor salesman and finally as a Para mutual race track teller. He enjoyed a rich family life by marrying Angelina Tanghetti in June 1950 thus increasing his family size exponentially. Angie and Jim's house became the family hub. On any given weekend their home was full to bursting with good food, good spirits, family, and friends. Jim maintained close ties to the community through his many affiliations including the Southside Improvement Club, Over the Hill Gang, Cherry Island Golf Club, and Christian Brothers La Salle club. Jim also spent much of his leisure time hunting, fishing and golfing. In his later years Jim enjoyed spending the Sacramento summers in his pool. He never turned down a good cigar or glass of Miller beer.Jim is survived by his son Jim Jr., (Karyn) granddaughter Jayme, his sister Teresa Slattery and her children: Michael and Anne, his sister-in-law Rose Tanghetti along with her children: Emil, Joanne, Teresa, Tina and Angela, and the Treiber children: Lance, Dane, Adam, and Lisa and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by wife Angie, brother Robert, brothers-in-law, Emilio Tanghetti, Dave Treiber, sister-in-law Lillian Treiber, and their son Jason. The funeral service was private as he wished but Jim's family and friend were invited to attend a hosted reception in celebration of his life and a toasting in his memory on Sunday, March 18, at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 3730 Auburn Blvd., from 1 4:00pm. Donations in remembrance of Jim can be made to the Angelina Burich Endowment fund at Christian Brothers High School or the charity of your choice.
