Was born August 10, 1926 and passed away Friday, January 13, 2012. He leaves behind his very loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Gerry Desmond. He is survived by his four children, Alana and Dave Neves, Gemma Konovaloff, Denise and Jeff Fields, and Louis Jr. and Nicole. He has 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Melissa Fields, sister Claire Lagomarsino, and brothers Buddy, Michael and Richard Desmond. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Cass Mastalski, Denise and Alfred Franzoia, and sisters-in-law Doris Desmond and Peggy Desmond. Louis was as a fourth generation Sacramentan. He attended Christian Brothers High School, later served in the United States Navy, Radioman Third Class, from January 1945 to December 1946. Louis was a proud member of the football team and graduated from St. Mary's College, Moraga, California, on September 10, 1949. Louis later graduated from McGeorge School of Law. Louis married Gerry Branick on June 23, 1951. He joined the law practice of Melvin & Desmond, was partner of the Law Firm of Desmond, Miller and Desmond until his retirement in the early 1990s. He was an active member of the bar association for 50 years. During his career, Louis served as Deputy District Attorney for Sacramento County, Judge in the South Sacramento Judicial District, President of South Sacramento Lions Club, Director of the Board of Governors of the California Trial Association, Trial Lawyers Association, Founder of the Republican Associates of Sacramento County, Member of the Rotary Club of Sacramento, and was a member of the National Diocesan Attorneys Association. Louis was most notably remembered as the General Counsel for the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sacramento for more than 25 years. Louis was appointed by the Pope as a Knight of St. Gregory. He was an active member of the Grandfathers Club, member of Del Paso Country Club, and Executive Secretary of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Louis was honored on his 80th birthday by Governor Schwarzenegger for his commitment to the community, the legal profession, his church and his family. Louis loved his family, golf, the Sacramento Kings, San Francisco 49ers, travel, and his garden. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento on Tuesday, January 17th between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. A Rosary will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Saint Ignatius Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 10:00 am at Saint Ignatius Church, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento. The family requests that all donations be sent to the Desmond Family Endowment Fund, Christian Brothers High School, 4315 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95820. Louis touched many people in his life. His life was his faith in God and his love for his family.
