Born April 4,1938 in Portland, OR, Michael was called home on March 18, 2012 in Sacramento, CA. Born to Robert M. and Marjory V. Crowley, he is lovingly survived by his wife Hazel "Sissy" Crowley and their children Daniel Crowley and wife Jennifer of Salinas, CA, Robin Orner and husband Bruce of Temecula, CA, Kathleen Castillo and husband Al of Sacramento, CA, Stephen Crowley of Sacramento, CA, Barbara Peyton and husband Terry of Elk Grove, CA. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Stephen and Gabriela Crowley; Danielle Gallaher and husband Paul; Eric, Matthew, Marc, and Jacob Orner; Jackson and Emma Peyton. He is remembered by his adopted children: Connie Stoneking, Bonnie Fleming, Sara Crago and Abe Adams. He was cherished by his siblings James Patrick Crowley and wife Vicki; Mary Beth Broderick and husband John; and numerous nieces and nephews. Michael graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane WA, with a bachelors degree in History and a Masters in Reading. He was a lifelong learner and teacher. He went into the ROTC at Gonzaga University then into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and left as a 1st Lieutenant. His military experiences lead him to become a pacifist. Michael was one of the founding faculty members of Cosumnes River College in English, Photography, Sailing, Religious Studies and History. He began teaching at CRC in 1970 and retired after thirty-one years of service in 2001. He served as the president of the California Federation of Teachers AFT/ AFL-CIO. In 1994 he was honored with the Cosumnes River College 25th Anniversary Award for Innovation, Leadership and Service. Also in 2002, he received the Ben Rust Award for Distinguished Educator and Teacher Union Leader. Michael was ordained a permanent deacon by the Diocese of Sacramento on June 15, 1996. He served as a deacon at St. Anthony's Parish for 15 years up until the day of his passing; beloved by his three pastors and congregation. Michael had many lifelong passions: family and friends, motorcycling and biking, photography, traditional wooden boat building, sailing, canoeing, reading, writing and learning both Spanish and guitar. He had a strong belief in serving others, and put this belief into practice by feeding the hungry through South Sacramento Interfaith Food Bank and Loaves and Fishes.
