To the great sorrow of her family, Margaret passed away on Good Friday, April 6, 2012 at the age of 102. Margaret was born to Annie and Peter Piccardo on January 6, 1910 in Jackson, California. At the age of five, she became seriously ill with meningitis that left her needing to relearn walking and talking. Her baby sister, Gladys, died during this time of the same disease. Margaret lost her father, grandparents and uncle during the 1918 flu epidemic. Despite these tragedies Margaret always said that her mother, aunts and uncles provided her a wonderful childhood. At the age of eighteen Margaret moved to Sacramento to attend business college. Upon graduation she went to work for the State of California Personnel Board where she enjoyed a long and successful career. After being swept off her feet she married the love of her life, Joseph Bowman. Margaret described their marriage as a wonderfully happy adventure. Joe died young in 1966 following a stroke. A skilled bridge player she was known to play 4 to 5 days a week. She remained a devout Catholic, a proud Italian, family historian, and a loyal Republican all of her life. Margaret will be remembered for her keen wit, positive outlook and the ability to make everyone feel important and welcome. Her impact on family and friends will be forever remembered. Survivors include her cousins, Bette Daft, Kent Daft(Peggy) and their children Jennifer Ashley(Garrett), Kassy, Christian(Dorothy), and Caroline. Jeff Daft and children Michael, Lauren and William. A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, April 13 at 1:00PM in the chapel at Presentation Catholic Church, 4123 Robertson Avenue, Sacramento. Remembrances may be made to the SPCA or the charity of one's choice.
