It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John D. McClure on Sunday, April 15th. Mr. McClure had a bad cough and trouble breathing. Fearing pneumonia, the staff at his assisted living facility had him taken to the hospital. Shortly after arrival, he suffered a massive fatal heart attack. John was a beloved Brother, Lead and Mentor to many. John had a passion for reading and continued to spend most of his time with book in hand until the end. His afternoons were usually spent reading a good history book whilst listening to Verdi and Galluppi. His career was spent as a librarian a at CSU Sacramento, and he had a very, very extensive collection of books. John was an expert in Napoleonic III history, and he was always eager for a discussion on politics with a strong democratic leaning. Mr. McClure served as the faculty advisor, chapter counselor and AVC member to the university chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon for nearly 50 years. Mr. McClure promoted kindness, brotherhood, leadership and personal accountability to over 1000 brothers, that he touched greatly. He was a distinguished recipient of the Order of the Golden Heart, Man of the Year, Order of Delta Phi Omega. Mr. McClure was well regarded and recognized for his passion for Sig Ep brotherhood. Mr. McClure was fond of saying think before you speak and ask yourself - "Is it necessary, is it kind and is it true?".
