Died peacefully at Mercy General Hospital on April 17, 2012, with her family present. She was loved, admired, and cherished by all who knew her. Born in 1922 in Kentucky, she was a graduate of DeSales Heights Academy in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She also graduated from the Fashion Merchandising Institute in New York City, and became a career woman. Rose married Harry A. "Doc" Daugherty, Jr., in 1948, and together they raised and educated four remarkable children. In 1957, they moved their family from Columbus, Ohio, to Sacramento, California. With Doc, she founded and operated General Coach and Equipment Sales until his death in 1993, selling and distributing school buses in Northern California, Nevada, and Hawaii. Rose was a founding member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sacramento, where she was active in many ministries and honored as Woman of the Year in 1997. She was a dedicated and active member of the St. Ignatius Altar Society, the Loretto High School Parents' Clubs and Endowment Fund Board, and the Jesuit High School Loyola Guild. Rose was a beautiful, witty and classy lady with an Irish smile that brightened your day and warmed your heart. She was a sweet blessing from God to this earth and a woman of great faith. Her generosity was boundless. Rose was passionately devoted to her family and is survived by her children: Mary Daugherty, Jim Daugherty (Joan), Ellie Meissner (John), and Sue West (Mike), as well as her grandchildren: Kelly, Danny, and Joey Daugherty; John (Caitlin), Katie, Mike, and Patty Meissner. She is also survived by her sister Blanche L. Gallagher; her sisters-in law Alice Rita Feeney, Kate Herbert, Martha Leonard, Ruth Leonard, and Katy Smith; and her brother-in-law Bill Greene. Rose shared a very special affection with each of them, as well as her numerous, fun-loving nieces and nephews, her friends, her children's friends and her grandchildren's friends. The family would like to thank Rose's caregivers, especially Aggie, RoseMarie, Nia, Linda and Crystal. You are dear to us. Friends are invited to celebrate Rose's life. The Vigil Service will be held Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 3235 Arden Way in Sacramento. The Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Rose's name be sent to the Doc and Rose Daugherty Memorial Scholarship Fund at Jesuit High School, to Wellspring Women's Center in Sacramento or to St. Ignatius Loyola Parish.
