Frank Marin Ostoja, our dear Nono passed away peacefully at the age of 94, the evening of Sept. 20, 2012 with beloved wife Eva, cherished daughter Josette, and adored grandchildren Steven and Susan at his side. He will be deeply missed by; Eva, Josette Halsted (partner, Norman Gregoire), Steven Ostoja, Ph.D. and Susan Mahan, M.S.(Rick Mahan) and great-granddaughter, Daisy Evangeline Mahan. He is also survived by his siblings, Marie Lucas, Joseph Ostoja and Michael Ostoja; as well as nieces and nephews; Valerie Cook, Norman Lucas, Mary Jo Woods, Henry Ostoja, Kathryn Kelly, Paula Domich, John Knezovich, Ph.D., Lorreta Slyh, Kathay Lovell and Marion Babich. He now rejoins his parents, the late Mandalena and Joseph Ostoja and infant daughter Mary Angela. Frank was a native and lifetime resident of Sacramento and passed just two days prior to his and Eva's 72 wedding anniversary. In Franks last days, his primary concern was that his wife and Nona would be cared for, which is a testament to his care, love, devotion and most of all selflessness that Frank always demonstrated. Franks father, Joesph, was among the original owners of the Rosemont Grill, a Sacramento landmark in the early part of the last century, where Frank worked as a young man. Following his service in WWII he and his brother-in-law Peter Babich opened up the Alibi cocktail lounge and later the Chukker restaurant in what is today downtown Sacramento, nearby the state capital, both very popular in that era. Our dear Nono will be desperately missed, but our family finds great resolve knowing how deeply we were touched by such an extraordinary man. A rosary-memorial service will be held at W.F. Gromley's Chapel located at 2015 Capitol Ave., Sac. on Saturday (09/29) at 11:30 am. Remembrances in his name may be made to the Christian Brother High School Scholarship Fund, 4315 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Sac., CA 95820.
