Dr. Alicia Christine Duran passed away peacefully on October 1, 2012, after a three-year battle with breast cancer, in her hometown Sacramento, California. She was 59 years old. She was a devoted wife to her husband Roger Harold Stoker for 24 years. They were married in Utah at a private ceremony on New Year's Eve 1987. She will be dearly missed by her parents Max Duran (Teresa) and Mary Scordakis and her siblings and their families: Laura Colozzi (Michael), Linda Duran, Ken Duran (Patrice), Michael Scordakis (Wendy), George Scordakis (Elaine), Fernando Villa (Vanessa), Guillermo Villa (Blanca). She leaves behind her loving niece Lisa Adda (Jerry) and handsome nephews Jim Boyd (Joanna, son Phoenix), Greg Duran (Amy), Michael Colozzi, Jr. (Lea, daughter Madison), Kenneth, Alexander and Jonathan Scordakis. Alicia will also be remembered by her sister-in-law Carol Stoker (Larry) and by her large and close-knit family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and her many devoted friends. Alicia earned her PhD. in Clinical Psychology at the APA accredited University of Utah in 1987. She also went on to be licensed at the University. As a Clinical Psychologist, she worked in the University's Student Services counseling center where she coordinated and supervised classes, programs and workshops. She also worked with high-risk students and graduate students working on pursuing their Masters' level and PhD. in mental health care. Alicia also held the other following positions: Clinical Director of United Behavioral Health Care in Salt Lake City, Utah; Director of Counseling Services at the University of Portland (Oregon); A seat on the Board of Catholic Charities (Oregon); Secretary to the Board of the Oregon Association of Mortgage Brokers; One of 14 Regional Support Network administrators for Washington State. She oversaw and coordinated the mental health care in 4 counties and 3 tribal reservations in the Northeast Region of Washington State; and, Appointment with United Behavioral Health as Director over the Spokane region in charge of some 60,000 subscribers. She oversaw a staff of some 57 Masters' level mental health care professionals. Alicia's interests were skiing, traveling and spending time with their dog, Kristin. She was an avid skier and often visited Snowbird and Park City ski resorts in Utah. Her travels took her to New Zealand, where she and Roger experienced the New Zealander's culture. Her postcard said they were "eating their way across New Zealandthe fruit, cheese and ice cream were excellent." They also traveled to Australia and visited Port Douglas, Queensland. While there, they saw the Great Barrier Reef. Her postcard read, "I have found paradise! The Great Barrier Reef is beautiful and the water is this color (turquoise)." She further wrote, "I have never been happier (no snow)." Kristin, their beloved guardian Rottweiler, remained always close to her heart. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial service on Saturday, October 13, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at W. F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento, California.
