Richard A. Flynn

February 7, 1939 — October 3, 2012

Richard A. Flynn

Was born February 7, 1939 in Sacramento, CA to the late George and Dorothy Flynn. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Kit Carson Jr. High and graduated Sacramento High School in 1957. He attended Sacramento City College & San Jose State College earning his pilots license. Dick was dynamic, always knew what he wanted, and how to make it happen. Five short months after meeting his future bride, he married the love of his life, Betsy Morebeck & in 1976 welcomed Richard their son. Dick worked for various airlines including Zantop International Airlines & Emery Worldwide Airlines, flying all over the world. In 1990, an automobile accident ended his flying career. Shortly after, he developed M.S. which put him in a wheelchair. These challenges never dampened his spirits or stopped him from doing the things he loved. Passionate about creating handicap access for the sports he loved, he was called upon by the Department of Fish and Game as advisor for handicap accessible trails & worked with the California Waterfowl Assoc. as their Volunteer Coordinator for the Disabled Sportsmens Commission for over 10 years. His expertise also helped create accessibility for handicapped golfers. Later, he was appointed to The City of Sacramento Disabilities Advisory Commission. He accomplished all this with a good sense of humor, a quick wit, higher than average dose of common sense and intelligence, perseverance, courage, & kindness. He was a role model not only to his son, but his many friends and family. Dick is survived by his wife Betsy, son Richard, Rose (Richard's girlfriend), her children, Taryn and Evan, sister-in-law Adrienne Flynn, sister-in-law Marilyn Harding, brother-in-law Will Morebeck (Joan), many nieces and nephews and longtime caregiver & true friend Camari Nasolo. Preceded in death by his brother George Flynn. He defined courage. A kinder man will be difficult to find. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of his soul at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Sacred Heart Church, 39th and J Street.
