Virginia Schatz

Virginia Marie Anne Schatz Mar 1, 1919 - Nov 3, 2012 This is the love story of a young girl, Virginia Marie Anne Schatz (Petrovich), born in Sacramento, who fell in love and married her life long soul mate, the late Charles Schatz. She and Charley were blessed with 57 years of a wonderful marriage and in her later years she loved to reminisce on the grand times they shared together. On Nov 3, 2012, Virginia was called home to be reunited with her late husband and share eternity together. Virginia was the beloved daughter of the Mary and George Petrovich and loving sister to George and Daniello Petrovich, as well as a gracious aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Charley and Virginia grew up in the same Sacramento neighborhood and in 1943 were married at St Francis of Assisi Parrish. Together they traveled the world, especially enjoying their parent's homelands of Germany and Croatia. Virginia and Charley were not blessed with children but shared their love as Godparents to Jeanie, Tricia, Alison, Mauren, Jacque and Paula. Over the years they were very active in the community with Elks Lodge #6, Celtic Society, Sacramento Turn Verein and the Mr & Mrs Club (where she proudly remembered participating in the Headdress Ball). When I last spoke with Virginia, Thursday before her parting, she told me "I have had a good life and I am tired now; I would like to join Charley." Virginia retired, after 31 years, from the California Board of Equalization and owned (with Charley) Woodards Cleaners until selling it in 1981. She was involved in many Sacramento service organizations including Mercy Guild, American Red Cross, St Anthony's Society and was a member of many social groups including Valley Hi Country Club, Ikebana, and the Zonta Club. She was especially fond of her time with the United Slovenian Ladies Society, the Tau Phi Lambda Sorority, and the American Slavic Social Club. Virginia was always ready with a joke and a smile; she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. A Rosary will be held on Wed, Nov. 14th at 6:30pm at W.F. Gormley Chapel in Sacramento. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of her soul on Thur, Nov 15th at 10am at Saint Francis of Assisi Parrish in Sacramento. She will be laid to rest at East Lawn Cemetery thereafter. A remembrance in Virginia's honor will be held at the American Slavic Social Club in Sacramento to share memories. Virginia asked that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the donors' choice.
