Philip & Isidoro Ingoglia

INGOGLIA, Philip A. INGOGLIA, Isidoro Marin Philip A. Ingoglia, entrepreneur and developer in Costa Rica, and his son, Isidoro, died tragically in an automobile accident on Jan. 23 in Hawaii. The accident also claimed the life of Donald Ingoglia, father and grandfather, whom they were visiting in Kona. Born in Sacramento to Pat and Don Ingoglia on March 24, l973, he attended Sacred Heart School, McClatchy High School and Humboldt State University where he majored in business. Subsequently, he ventured to Costa Rica to follow his dream of living in the rain forest where he enjoyed and appreciated the natural environment. He built a beautiful home in Dominical, married Marjorie, and raised his son, Isidoro. He recently moved to San Isidro, and established a sustainable farm with citrus fruits, vegetables, bananas and other foods and vegetables. His first crop of organic coffee was produced this year and in recognition of its success, he gave it to the community. A community leader, he was the founder of the Dominical Life Guard Association, which raises funds and hires life guards on the coast at Dominical, the longest surfing beach in the world. It is the only life guard program in Costa Rica and has saved over 30 lives each year. Recently, he organized the first Bikers Run, which raised funds to provide Christmas gifts for children in need in San Isidro. He enjoyed music, scuba diving, traveling. Most of all, he was a loving father, who was inseparable from his son, Izzy. Like his father, Phil had a zest for life, and was valued by his friends for his loyalty and generosity. Survivors include his mother, Pat; brothers, Dan (Nora), Peter, Thomas and John (Shirley), and many other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, Feb. 2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Dominical Lifeguard Fund at www.dominicallifeguards.org. Isidoro Marin Ingoglia Born June 27, 2003, in Dominical, Costa Rica, Izzy was the son of Marjorie Marin Mena and the late Philip Ingoglia. A fourth grader, he attended Escuela del Valle in San Isidro, where he was at the top of his class, a musician, and all-around accomplished child. He played on the school's soccer and basketball teams, and was an outstanding surfer, even at the age of 4 when he received his first trophy for the longest waves and most waves. He played multiple instruments in the school band, was an avid reader and fluent in Spanish, English and was learning Italian. He also enjoyed drawing and painting. A leader among his classmates, Izzy showed incredible depth for his age through his empathy and devotion to friends. On weekends, he and his mother often visited her extended family. He developed a love of nature through visits to his great-grandfather's farm, where his cousins and many relatives lived. Izzy appreciated the Costa Rican way of life, sharing in cultivating and farming of the land. During regular visits to his Sacramento grandparents, Pat and Don, Izzy appreciated his experiences in California and always shared his travels by taking souvenirs and gifts to his classmates. He was their ambassador to Disneyland, Hawaii, Africa West, San Francisco and many other places. He loved sharing outdoors activities with his father, as hiking, swimming, surfing, snorkeling and jumping off high cliffs into waterfalls. Their last adventure together was visiting the Volcanic National Park at Kilauea with Grandpa, where they shared a great time together. They explored the craters, vents and watched red lava flow into the ocean. With Izzy in awe, they shared the power of the scene. Survivors include his mother, Marjorie Marin Mena; his grandparents, Paulino Marin Porras and Flor Mena Gamboa, and Pat Ingoglia; and many loving relatives in Costa Rica and California. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Sacred Heart Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to to Dominical Lifeguard Fund at www.dominicallifeguards.org.
