Nancy Ida Vanina

Nancy Vanina, 82 died in Sacramento on January 22, 2013. Widowed wife of 46 years to Robert C. Vanina and most recently the widowed wife of 3 years to Martin O. Greaney. She is survived by son, Robert C. Vanina II and wife Kandice, and children Elizabeth Romeka and Brian Vanina; daughter Laurie L. Vanina; the late son Jon B. Vanina; and sister to Ray S. Bieber and wife Ruth; and sister to the late Lucille B. Freise and husband the late Edwin M. Friese. Daughter of Ellen and Ira Bieber. Nancy was born in the small town of Emmaus, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1930. Her father worked for a manufacturing company and her mother stayed home to care for Nancy and her two older siblings. After graduation from high school Nancy found a job in the Revenue Office of the State Hospital but it wasn't long before she left for New York City. There she became a runway and photographers model after attending Barbizon School for models. It was in NYC that Nancy met her first husband Robert C. Vanina, the father of her three children. He was a resident physician training at NYU for a practice in Dermatology. Bob was a native of Sacramento, CA, and after a brief courtship, in 1951 they married in Pennsylvania. When he started his practice it meant a permanent move to Sacramento, CA, where they raised their three children. After the death of her husband in 1997, his old friend and colleague, Martin "Pat" Greaney, offered friendship and support. Over time their friendship developed into a romance and they were married in Dec. 2009. Sadly Nancy lost Pat only a few weeks prior to her passing. Nancy will be remembered by friends and acquaintances alike for her gregarious and outgoing personality. She was quick to smile and put everyone at ease.
