James Leo Dunphy

'Mr. D' Born 2-14-23 to James L. and Anna Thielan Dunphy in Sacramento, California. Peacefully passed on 3-5-13. His family was one of the founding families of Sacramento. His grandfather owned Dunphys' market, established late 1800s. Christian Brothers was his high school and he graduated from St. Mary's College. After college he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, he was very proud to have been a marine. Mr. D. retired from the State Dept. of Architecture with over 30 years of service in 1982. Becoming a docent at the California History Museum was a natural for him. He knew and loved to talk about early Sacramento history. Saturday breakfast at the Distillery revolved around history and good friends. Special thanks are given to Tim Stephenson and Sherry Rohn, his devoted caregivers. A viewing will take place at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Ave., from 2 till 7pm on Tues. March 12 with a Rosary to follow at 7pm. A private burial will be at the Old City Cemetery Sacramento.
