Born on July 23, 1919 to Mary (Schon) Pengilly & Lewis Pengilly in Stockton, CA and passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 in Sacramento, Ca., He graduated from the College of the Pacific in 1941 with a degree in Mechanical (Aeronautical) Engineering and later obtained a license in Civil Engineering. He served for over 3 years during World War II with the 13th US Army Air Force in the South Pacific Theater, where he received the Soldier's Medal in 1944 for heroism. He achieved the rank of Captain in the 15th Airdrome Squadron of the Army Air Force. He married June Julian on Jan. 8, 1946. They had 4 children: Rita Karmel, Dana Joseph, Douglas Paul (Jean Dickson), and Donald John (Karen). His parents, his brother and his son, Dana Joseph, preceded him in death. His wife, daughter, sons, and two grandsons, Grady and Ry, survive him. He worked for the California Department of Transportation (Cal Trans) for 33 years, retiring in December 1979 as Chief, Office of Office Engineer. Following retirement he and June participated in the senior collegiate program at Sacramento City College and volunteered their services for many years at Loaves and Fishes and the Sacramento Food Bank. They also traveled extensively, with destinations including Europe, Australia, Asia, and the South Pacific. A Rosary will be held at 7pm on Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Holy Spirit Parish Church, 3159 Land Park Drive in Sacramento, Ca. Funeral Mass will be held 11am Wednesday March 13, 2013 at Holy Spirit. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the charity of your choice. Interment will be private.
