MURPHYSBORO - Rosalie K. Sykes, 93, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Carbondale, passed away at 6:56 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, in Sacramento, Calif., where she resided since 2001. Rosalie was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Goreville, to Eugene E. Stroud and Alice Amanda (Toler) Stroud. She was married Sept. 4, 1937, in Carbondale, to Kasper Kraus, who passed away in 1946. She then married Ralph Sykes on Nov. 10, 1961, in Carbondale, and he preceded her in death Jan. 23, 1996. Mrs. Sykes worked as a bookkeeper for First National Bank in Carbondale for 30 years, from 1954 to 1984. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Carbondale, and later of First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She is survived by two sons, David Kraus of Roseville, Mich., and Thomas Kraus of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandsons, John Kraus of Detroit, Robert Kraus of Emeryville, Calif., and Clifford Kraus of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, one brother, one sister and her parents. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shaker Samuel officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
