Gayle Lee Johnson

Gayle Lee Johnson (née Martin) passed away suddenly on 11 July 2013. She was born 22 August 1934 in Powell, Nebraska. She lived for many years in the Roseville area and was a retail salesperson, quilter, mother, and grandmother. She was 78 years old when she passed away from natural causes after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Johnson, her daughter Carol Bowman, and her son Robert Johnson, all residents of Carmichael; by her grand children Kristen Bowman and James Bowman, both of Santa Monica; and by her sisters Patricia Will of Woodburn, Oregon, and Kathleen Hall of Philomath, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her sister Dennis Freer and her brother Armond Martin. Gayle graduated in 1974 from Sacramento State University after a very active life as an Air Force wife. She particularly loved the family's posting to Wheeler, AFB, in Wahiawa, Hawaii, where she pursued her continuing education in Home Economics at the University of Hawaii. She was an avid cook and quilter, and was a member of the Roseville Quilters Guild. Her zest for the domestic arts was infectious and was shared with all those who knew her. On Monday, July 29, after the private interment at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, family and friends attended Life Celebration reception in the Fireside Room of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1615 Morse Ave, Sacramento, from 2:00 until 5:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
