Ada Anne Daugherty

On September 7, 2013 Ada Anne Daugherty passed away from this life as she lived, with faith, hope and love. Ada Anne Daugherty (Panattoni) was born to Carlo and Anna Panattoni on August 20, 1929 in Sacramento, California. She moved with her family to Viareggio, Italy at the age of 6 months. She remembers returning to Sacramento to start school, learn English and live her life in the United States. Ada was a Sacramento resident attending Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School, Immaculate Conception, St. Francis High School, Holy Names College, and Sacramento State University where she earned her teaching credential. Ada Anne entered the Carmelite Monastery at the age of 19 and left the Convent after 1 year. Her devotion to the Catholic Church, the Blessed Mother and the Catholic faith has been unwavering from birth to her ascension into heaven. In Sacramento she met her future husband Ellis Marvin Daugherty (deceased '94). They were married for 39 wonderful years and had 5 loving children; Shawn, Carl and Mary-Kevin and twins Daniel and Thomas (deceased '61). Mike Schmidlen holds a special place in her heart. Ada Anne will be deeply missed by her son-in-law John Sylvia and daughter-in-law Carla Schmidlen. Nonni brought great fun, joy and much learning into the lives of her grandchildren Kate, Michael, Mara (Sylvia), Sarah (Daugherty), Ellis-Anne (Stockwell) and Matt and Andy (Schmidlen) and great grandchildren (Kailey, Laney Ellis, Ayla and Emmie). Her sister Carolyn and brother-in-law Paul, many nieces and nephews, numerous friends and former students will never forget her support and spirit. Ada Anne retired from teaching at the age of 81 after 34 years of service at Camellia Basic School. Mrs. Daugherty taught up to 3 generations of families at Camellia and gave each of her students the belief that they could achieve and be anything they set their hearts to do. She had a true passion for helping her students and their community. For the last 15 years Ada has spent each summer in Lido di Camaiore, Italia with family and friends. Her love of the Italian culture led her to a bond with the local community that is unbreakable. While not in Lido, Ada Anne traveled all over the world with friends and family. She loved to cook and her favorite place was the kitchen. In 2011 Ada won the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Clam Chowder Cook Off in her first entry. Ada also found great enjoyment in baseball and was an avid Giants and A's fan attending, listening or watching the games whenever possible. Ada Anne lived her life fully with a youthful exuberance and humanity volunteering for many organizations through her life; St. Ignatius School and Parish, Loretto High School, Jesuit High School, St. Francis High School, Dante Club (which her Nonno Victorio Panattoni founded), Loaves and Fishes, Little Sisters of the Poor and Third Order Carmelites. Great joy and tireless faith and love for her family and friends filled her life. Each person she encountered made an impact and she expressed this sentiment often. Friends were invited for a well attended Mass of Christian Burial which was offered for the repose of her soul on September 13, 1:00 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 3245 Arden Way, Sacramento, and she was laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery. She will be deeply missed.
