Sam Mercuris

Sam peacefully passed away October 5, 2013 after a 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Megali Valtsa, Greece to the parents of Gust and Effie Mercuris. He was the loved husband of Olympia Mercuris (Gianopulos). He was the father to David Mercuris (Judith), Elizabeth Arellanes (Paul), Michele Caposio (Anthony) and beloved Papou of Hannah, Sam, Sophie, Niko, Kate, Alexia and Bella. He leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and family in Greece. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill, and sisters, Patsy and Thelma. Sam was a PG&E foreman in gas construction for 40 years. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, serving on the Parish Council, supporting the Sunday School, and working on the Greek Food Festival for many years. He was a very proud Greek American. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Traditional Greek Orthodox services included a Trisagion held on Monday, October 14, 2013, 7:00 PM, Funeral service Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM. All services were at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 600 Alhambra Boulevard, Sacramento, California.
