John Kieran Murphy, 49, of Sacramento passed away on November 2, 2013. John was born on February 21, 1964 to Carolyn and Thomas E. Murphy. He is survived by his mother Carolyn Murphy; sisters Theresa Krtil ('Ernie'), Colleen Heck (Grant); brothers Timothy Murphy (Scotty), Michael Murphy, and Brian Murphy (Cathy), all of Sacramento. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Sarah, Joseph, Alexandra, Caitlin and Carly, as well as two grandnephews. John graduated from Sacred Heart School and Sacramento High School. He made many lifelong friends at both schools. With signature good humor, John valiantly battled three different bouts of cancer over the past six years. Prior to that, John spent many years in the hospitality industry working for various hotels, restaurants, and catering firms. He was a natural athlete, who enjoyed skiing, cycling, and golf. John was also an accomplished cook, who was a 'foodie' before the term was coined, His interests were many and diverse. John was a connoisseur of the best things in life, including good food, wine, and art. John was an art lover and collector, especially of vintage Maxfield Parrish prints. He enjoyed going to art galleries with family and friends. He could carry on an animated conversation with anyone about anything. His generosity, especially with his family, was legendary. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him, and he leaves us all too soon.
