On November 30th, 2013 Teresa Slattery died after a 15 month struggle with Metastatic Melanoma. Although Teresa was known by her friends and family as an inveterate traveler, she was a local girl at heart. Teresa was born August 8, 1933 to James and Mary Burich. Teresa was educated at Immaculate Conception Grammar School, St. Francis High School, and Dominican College in San Raphael. Teresa began her teaching career in West Sacramento, a career that included posts as far away as Germany and Indonesia. In 1978 Teresa brought her family back to Sacramento. She then embarked on a new career in property management with Parker Development Company. Teresa retired from PDC in 1999 and turned her energies to spoiling her grandchildren, volunteering in the Los Nios Service League, and yet more travel. She also spent time as a Hospice volunteer. Teresa will be remembered by family and friends alike as being bright, witty, and generous with her time and affection. Teresa is survived by her son Michael Slattery, her daughter Anne Hewitt, her grandsons Carson and Jacob Hewitt, her nephew James Burich, and several much loved cousins. She was predeceased by her parents James and Mary Burich and her brothers Robert and James Burich Junior. A Mass for Teresa was celebrated on Wednesday, December 11th at Holy Spirit Church at 11:00. A reception in her honor took place at 1:00 the same day at the Croatian American Cultural Center. In keeping with her colorful and vibrant nature, Teresa's children asked that we all honor her request to dress not in black but in bright happy colors. Donations in her name can be made to the Sacramento Children's Home, Dominican College, or the Melanoma Research Alliance.
