William Joseph Holzmer aged 94, Sacramento, CA passed away peacefully and rejoined his beloved wife Joanne on December 8, 2013. Bill was born on September 11, 1919 in Hobart, Indiana, the 9th of 11 children born to Nicholas and Eva Holzmer. Bill enjoyed a full and grateful life. He began college in 1939 at Western Kentucky University where he met his future bride Joanne Ourant. As with so many from his generation, WWII interrupted their lives, and Bill married Joanne in 1945 in Texas and they were married 63 years. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1947 with a Business degree and enjoyed a successful career in corporate sales and management. His career required moving his wife and 6 children to TX, LA, TN, and finally CA. Saratoga, CA was home for 36 yrs where Bill was very active at Church of the Ascension, and in the SIRS, bridge, poker, and garden clubs. Bill and Joanne moved to Sacramento in 2007. Bill was a gifted horticulturalist and converted his yard to a mini Garden of Eden blossoming with fruits, vegetables and flowers of every flavor and color, and he loved sharing his plant knowledge and produce from his yard. He absolutely cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill is remembered by family and friends for his love, wisdom, positive attitude and generous volunteer efforts, integrity, work ethic, listening ear, and his unwavering gratitude and trust in God. He passed on to his children and grandchildren his thirst for knowledge and truth, his green thumb, steadfast commitment to his Christian faith, his family and friends. Surviving are six children, David (Qing) Holzmer, Houston, TX, Mary (Dan) Arnow, Ogden, Utah, Mark Holzmer, San Jose, CA, Paul (Debby) Holzmer, Tulsa, OK, Fred (Betty) Holzmer and Robert Holzmer, Sacramento, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a grandson. In Bill's memory, a Mass was held at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th St, Sacramento on January 10 at 1:30 PM, followed by Celebration of Life Reception at 3:00 PM at Mercy McMahon Terrace, 3865 J Street, Sacramento.
