Beatrice "Ann" Allaye Chan passed away on March 13, 2014 from mesothelioma. God chose to take her on her birthday. Ann was born on March 13, 1941 in Whitley Bay, England. She was the only child of Captain Cranfield and Nancy Harding. Ann graduated from King's College of Nursing and worked at Shotley Bridge Hospital, England. There, she met her husband, Richard Allaye Chan, MD, marrying in 1964. The couple soon moved to Hong Kong to live with his family. Ann quickly mastered Cantonese, and immersed herself in the culture. Ann and Richard immigrated to the US in 1967. Ann was a 41-year resident of Fair Oaks, where she raised her family. Ann was always willing to share a story and give advice. She was generous and kind, with a spark that ignited a room. She was a loving and fiercely devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Ann was active in St. Mel's School, often organizing fundraisers while raising her four children. She loved to travel, especially to Hong Kong, England and Ireland. She often ventured to Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles with her children and grandchildren. Ann is survived by her devoted children, Denise Allaye Chan (partner, Newman Ng),Richard Allaye Chan, Jr (wife, Anne), Laura Lee (husband, Steven) and Michelle Chan-Ponder(husband, Danny) as well as her 7 cherished grandchildren: Alexander, Aidan and Andrew Lee; Claire and Sophie Allaye Chan; Charlotte and Amelia Ponder. Ann will be sorely missed by her family and friends. May her soul continue on its journey and be reunited with her beloved husband, Richard. Recitation of the Holy Rosary on Thursday, was held on March 20 at 6:00 P.M. at St. Mel Catholic Church, 4745 Pennsylvania Ave, Fair Oaks. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mel Catholic Church on Friday, March 21 at 10:30 A.M. Internment to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
