Don Wai-Chuen Ng

Don Wai-Chuen Ng was born on May 20, 1947 to Jom and Pui Lin Ng in Toi Shan of Canton, China. On the morning of March 22, 2014, after a long battle with his health, he passed away peacefully in Sacramento. He leaves behind a loving wife, Evelyn, and three sons: Tony, Mike, and Gary. He grew up in the village of Yun Hing of Nam Chuen with his two older brothers Alan and Kim and his younger sister, Annie. When Don was 11 years old, he left Toi Shan for Hong Kong with his brother and grandmother where he was reunited with the rest of his family who had moved there earlier. In Hong Kong, he completed his high school education and then moved to Taiwan to pursue his college degree at Chung Gung University. After two years, he left Taiwan and moved with his family to pursue greater opportunities in the United States. Arriving in the small mining town of Eureka, Nevada in 1971 - he began working with his father as a cook at the Eureka Café. Education was always important to him so after a year, he left Eureka and enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno where he earned his degree in Business. In 1974, Don moved to the city of San Francisco and began working at an import/export company that would provide the inspiration later used to create his own business. In that same year, he married his wife Evelyn. Together, in 1979, they moved to Sacramento where they would start the successful wholesale and restaurant supply business - Donald Trading Company. They would spend the next 35 years together growing the business while raising three sons. During those years, Don enjoyed many great successes and created numerous lasting friendships. He enjoyed travelling with his family to places both near and far. He loved fishing and playing Mah Jong with his friends. His laid-back nature, funny sense of humor, and charismatic personality constantly drew others to him. He was a caring, honest, and generous man who was always willing to help others. Don worked extremely hard his entire life. He was loved by many as a great friend and admired by his employees. He was a loyal husband to his wife, a loving father to his children and a dedicated brother to his siblings. He will be dearly missed but will live on forever - in our memories and in our hearts.
