Maria Teixeira

Maria passed away peacefully in Sacramento, CA on March 26, 2014, at the age of 94. Maria now rejoins her beloved husband, the late Manuel Teixeira. She is preceded in death by her sister Olivia Thomas and brother-in-law David Thomas; and parents Jose and Maria Luis. She is survived by her sister Noemia Pereira and brother-in-law Joaquim Pereira. Loving aunt and madrinha to her nephew Mario Pereira and 'Grandma Maria' to her great nieces Lena and Marisa Pereira. Maria was born on January 10, 1920 in the small village of Santo Amaro on Pico island, Azores, Portugal. Her parents immigrated to the United States the following year. At 11 years old, Maria and her family moved back to the Azores and Maria was invited to attend school on Sao Miguel island, where she eventually graduated. Maria worked for TWA Airlines in Lisbon, Portugal, where she met her husband Manuel. They moved back to the United States and spent their time between Santa Cruz and Sacramento. Maria retired from Santa Cruz County and spent her years after in Portugal before moving back to Sacramento. Maria had many dear friends throughout her life. She cherished her friends and family very much and she will be deeply missed by those she touched. Friends attended a Mass of Christian burial which will be offered for the repose of her soul on Tuesday, April 1st, 1 p.m., in the chapel at St. Mary's Cemetery, Sacramento. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the mausoleum at St. Mary's immediately following.
